Vapour-Mounted Foam Seal (VMFS)

Vapour-Mounted Foam Seal (VMFS)

A Vapour-Mounted Foam Seal (VMFS), also known as a Vapour Mounted Primary Foam Seal, is a primary rim seal system installed above the liquid surface in the annular vapour space between the floating roof and the tank shell. The seal consists of a continuous closed-cell foam core enclosed within a reinforced hydrocarbon-resistant elastomeric fabric envelope. The foam-filled envelope is attached to the floating roof using clamp bars and continuously presses against the tank shell to provide an effective vapor barrier. Since the seal remains above the liquid level, it is not in continuous contact with the stored product, making it suitable for a wide range of petroleum products. The system accommodates shell irregularities, thermal expansion, roof movement, and wind-induced deflection while minimizing evaporative losses, reducing VOC emissions, and improving operational safety.

Typical Application

• External Floating Roof Tanks (EFRT).
• Crude Oil Storage Tanks.
• Gasoline Storage Tanks.
• Diesel Storage Tanks.
• Naphtha Storage Tanks.
• Kerosene Storage Tanks.
• Jet Fuel (ATF) Storage Tanks.
• Petrochemical and Chemical Storage Tanks (material compatibility to be verified).
• Petroleum Refineries.
• Petrochemical Plants.
• Oil Terminals and Tank Farms.
• Marine Storage Facilities.
• New installations, seal replacement, and retrofit projects.
