Mechanical Shoe Seal (MSS)

Mechanical Shoe Seal (MSS)

A Mechanical Shoe Seal (MSS) is a primary rim seal system installed around the perimeter of an External Floating Roof Tank (EFRT) and IFRT to minimize the annular vapour space between the floating roof and the tank shell. The seal consists of a series of overlapping metallic shoes held firmly against the tank shell by stainless steel springs or pantograph mechanisms. A reinforced elastomeric seal fabric connects the metallic shoes to the floating roof, forming a flexible vapour barrier that accommodates shell irregularities, roof movement, thermal expansion, and wind-induced deflection. The Mechanical Shoe Seal provides excellent vapour emission control, reduces product losses, improves fire safety, and maintains reliable sealing performance over the full operating range of the floating roof. It’s very easy for maintenance and disposal of compare to Foam seal.

Typical Application

• External Floating Roof Tanks (EFRT).
• Crude Oil Storage Tanks.
• Gasoline, Diesel, Naphtha, Kerosene, Jet Fuel (ATF), Ethanol and Petrochemical Storage Tanks.
• Low, Medium and High Vapor Pressure Hydrocarbon Storage.
• Refineries.
• Petrochemical Plants.
• Oil & Gas Production Facilities.
• Tank Farms and Bulk Liquid Storage Terminals.
• Marine Export Terminals.
• New tank construction and retrofit or seal replacement projects.
